Think 1939 private eye detective story, except the detective happens to be a time traveler dealing with aliens and ridiculous hijinks.
Even if you're not into Doctor Who, it works as a standalone time-traveling mystery. But if you are a fan, you'll love seeing River Song's wit and charm come through exactly as the actress intended. Fair warning: the early Doctor Who seasons have terrible special effects, but the plots and characters more than make up for it.
