Fluent in English, French and Italian, he was assigned to intelligence, intercepting messages, and ended the War in northern Italy, sleeping in Mussolini's bed. Post-war, the American's career at Pan American World Airlines spanned 45-years and included a stint as director in Nice, which is how he developed a close friendship with Prince Rainier and Princess Grace.
